80% of Indians Want a New Job in 2024 (LinkedIn Study)

LinkedIn’s latest research unveils a significant trend among Indian professionals as 79% express a desire not only for a new job but also a transition to a different industry in 2024.

According to LinkedIn’s findings released on January 17, nearly nine in 10 (88%) professionals in India are contemplating a job change this year. This shift reflects a growing emphasis on career ownership and aspirations for productivity and growth.

The report highlights a surge in job search activity on LinkedIn, with a 9% increase in 2023 compared to the previous year, indicating proactive career management among professionals.

However, despite the eagerness for change, professionals face challenges aligning their skills with job requirements, with 45% admitting uncertainty in skill-job matching and 59% reporting limited feedback from recruiters.

The research underscores a 30% transformation in job skill requirements since 2015, signaling evolving demands in the Indian job market.

Work-life balance and higher pay emerge as primary motivators for job transitions, echoing global trends. Notably, roles such as closing manager, influencer marketing specialist, and design specialist witness substantial growth rates above 79% in 2024.

Nirajita Banerjee, Career Expert and Sr. Managing Editor for LinkedIn India, anticipates heightened competition in the job market as professionals assert greater control over their careers in 2024.

To adapt to evolving job search dynamics, 72% of professionals have altered their approach, embracing innovative formats like video and digital resumes. Additionally, 81% recognize the potential of AI in streamlining job searches for enhanced efficiency and productivity.

Investing in personal branding and expanding professional networks emerges as pivotal strategies, with 79% of professionals increasing content engagement on LinkedIn and 83% actively growing their network connections.

LinkedIn’s research sheds light on the evolving landscape of job search and career aspirations among Indian professionals, highlighting the need for adaptive strategies and skill alignment in a dynamic job market.
