INDIA: Poonawalla’s tweet came a day after the Union Health Ministry urged all states and UTs to ramp up the whole genome sequencing of positive samples.
Institute of India’s Chief Executive Adar Poonawalla has claimed that Indians do not need to worry due to the nation’s “excellent vaccination coverage and track record”. However, cautioning people, in a tweet, he also asked everyone to adhere to the guidelines set by the government of India and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Earlier today, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held a meeting with senior officials and experts on the COVID-19 situation in the country. After the meeting, the Minister tweeted, “COVID is not over yet. I have directed all concerned to be alert and strengthen surveillance. We are prepared to manage any situation.”
