Garena unveils esports roadmap for Free Fire in 2023, featuring new tournaments and formats Garena, the developer of Free Fire, has announced its esports roadmap for the popular mobile game, revealing a range of new competitions, including two major tournaments and a brand-new format for all international championships.
The Free Fire SEA Invitational (FFSI) is a new tournament set to debut in May and will feature 18 invited teams from regions such as MCPS, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Europe, MEA, Taiwan, and Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) is set to return in November and will see 18 teams from around the world compete to be crowned world champions of Free Fire.
To qualify for these tournaments, teams must compete in local leagues, with the Spring Seasonal Pro Leagues selecting teams for FFSI, while the Fall Season Pro Leagues will choose teams for FFWS.
Garena is also introducing a new format for international tournaments, featuring two stages: the Group Stage and Grand Finals. The Group Stage will see 18 teams compete over two weekends, with the top 12 teams advancing to the Grand Finals. The Grand Finals will be held over three days, featuring a total of 18 matches, with the champion being determined by the total points accumulated over the three days.
By implementing these changes, Garena aims to change the landscape of Free Fire esports and provide fans with more exciting and competitive gameplay. The extended tournament time will allow for more action from fans’ favorite teams, while the new format will require teams to show off their skills to earn a spot in the grand tournaments.
