Air India CEO unveils new plans for the airline, including revised salaries for pilots and cabin crew

Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has revealed plans for the airline, which includes a new rostering system, compensation packages for pilots and cabin crew, and new designs for cabin interiors and crew uniforms. The airline has already recruited over 3,800 staff across various functions and rolled out 29 new policies in the last six months as part of its transformation plan. Air India is set to recruit 4,200 cabin crew and 900 pilots in 2023. It is also investing $200 million in information technology systems and $400 million to refurbish existing aircraft.

The airline has already placed orders for 470 planes. The first phase of the transformation plan has concluded, and the second phase, which focuses on developing platforms, processes, and systems to build towards excellence, has commenced. Wilson said that Air India has come a long way in establishing foundations for growth in the first six months of the transformation journey.

The revised salaries for Air India pilots and cabin crew will be announced on Monday. The airline has also reactivated more than 10 codeshare agreements and is in active alliance discussions with other airlines. Air India has recently onboarded more than 3,800 staff across crew and other functions. The airline aims to restore Air India to the upper echelons of global aviation by making significant investments.

The CEO also revealed that the iconic Maharajah may continue to be a part of the airline’s mascot, with the possibility of including a female version as well. The loss-making Air India, which is being piloted by the Tata Group since January last year, is putting in significant efforts towards its transformation plan to make it profitable.
