Meta India Loses Another Top Executive: Manish Chopra Resigns After Four Years

Manish Chopra, the Director and Head of Partnerships at Meta India, has resigned from his position after a four-year stint. He is the fourth senior executive to quit Meta India in the last six months, following Ajit Mohan, Abhijit Bose and Rajiv Aggarwal. His exit comes amid growing regulatory scrutiny and public backlash over Meta’s policies and practices in India.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has been facing several challenges in India, such as data privacy issues, hate speech allegations, misinformation concerns and legal disputes. The company has also been accused of interfering in India’s democratic processes and favouring certain political parties. Chopra has not revealed his future plans yet, but thanked his colleagues and partners for their support and collaboration.

Chopra was responsible for leading Meta’s partnerships with media organisations, content creators, celebrities, public figures and influencers in India. He also oversaw Meta’s initiatives such as Facebook Watch, Instagram Reels, Creator Studio and Facebook Gaming in the country. He joined Meta in 2019 after working as the co-founder and CEO of Little Internet Pvt Ltd, an online platform for local deals and services. He also worked as a director at McKinsey & Company for over 12 years. Chopra’s departure raises questions about Meta’s strategy and vision for India, which is one of its largest and most important markets.

The company has been trying to regain trust and credibility among its users, regulators and partners in India, but has faced several hurdles and controversies along the way. It remains to be seen how Meta will cope with the loss of another key executive and who will fill his shoes.
