Indian Markets Show Mixed Performance, Reflecting Global Trends and Service PMI Data - Kruthiga V S

Indian markets ended on a mixed note during Wednesday’s session, influenced by global trends and moderation in service PMI data. The Sensex, India’s benchmark index, concluded slightly down, while the Nifty 50 index ended slightly up. The Bank Nifty settled lower, and India’s volatility index experienced a surge.

The market’s performance was influenced by various factors, including trade tensions between the US and China, concerns over FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) minutes, and the moderation in service PMI data. However, the downside was limited due to significant gains in auto, healthcare, oil & gas, consumer durables, and capital goods stocks. Midcap and Smallcap stocks outperformed the benchmark indices.

Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, acknowledged that global worries and the moderation in service PMI data briefly impacted the domestic market’s rally. Nevertheless, he highlighted the market’s last-minute broad-based recovery, which serves as a reaffirmation of investors’ confidence in the Indian economy.

Among the stocks listed on BSE, a greater number of stocks advanced compared to those that declined, with some remaining unchanged. There were 214 stocks that hit a new 52-week high, while 35 stocks hit a new 52-week low.

In terms of market capitalization, BSE-listed firms’ valuation reached a record ₹300 lakh crore but finished at ₹299.90 lakh crore.
