Cristiano Ronaldo may have to wait to play with his new teammates at Al-Nassr, as the Saudi club has been hit with a transfer ban by FIFA. The reason? They still owe Leicester City £390,000 for former Foxes star Ahmed Musa.
Musa joined Al-Nassr in 2018 for £14m ($18m) and helped them win the league title in his first season. However, he left the club in 2020 and is now a free agent. Leicester claimed that Al-Nassr did not pay them some performance-related add-ons for Musa and took the case to FIFA. FIFA ruled in Leicester’s favour and warned Al-Nassr that they would face a registration ban if they did not pay up by 2021.
According to the Daily Mirror, Al-Nassr have failed to do so and are now barred from adding any new players to their squad for up to three transfer windows. This could affect their plans to challenge for the title next season, as they have already signed Marcelo Brozovic from Inter Milan and Ronaldo from Juventus.
Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in January, scored 14 goals in 16 league games but could not prevent them from finishing second behind Al-Hilal. Al-Nassr are hoping to resolve the issue soon, as the Public Investment Fund (PIF) has reportedly agreed to pay the debt to Leicester. Until then, Ronaldo and Brozovic will have to wait to make their debuts for their new club.
