The G20 Leaders’ Summit, held under India’s presidency, concluded in Delhi on September 10, receiving praise from the United States, which lauded it as an ‘absolute success.’

In a briefing on September 11, the official spokesperson of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, stated, “We absolutely believe it was a success. The G20 is a significant organization, counting both Russia and China among its members.”

The G20 nations, in a New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration on September 9 in the context of the Ukraine war, expressed that “the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible.”

The New Delhi Declaration reaffirmed the G20’s status as the premier forum for international economic cooperation. Member countries acknowledged that while the G20 focuses on economic matters, geopolitical and security issues can have global economic consequences.

The G20 member countries called upon all nations to uphold core principles of international law, including territorial integrity, sovereignty, adherence to international humanitarian laws, and support for the multilateral system that promotes global peace and stability.

The New Delhi Declaration stressed the importance of peaceful conflict resolution, crisis management, diplomacy, and dialogue. It affirmed the commitment to address the adverse impact of the war on the global economy and welcomed initiatives promoting a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine, in line with the UN Charter’s Purposes and Principles.

India’s historic hosting of the G20 Summit in New Delhi from September 9-10 showcased the nation’s rich traditions and strengths. Throughout its presidency, India emphasized critical issues such as inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate resilience, and global health equity. Indonesia held the G20 presidency the previous year, with Brazil set to assume the presidency following India’s tenure.
