Cities Implement Strict Time Windows for Diwali Firecrackers - Kruthiga V S

Several Indian states have set rules for the use of green crackers and specific time windows for bursting them during Diwali, as worsening air pollution concerns prevail. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Maharashtra have established regulations allowing the bursting of green crackers between 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali.

Delhi: The Delhi Pollution Control Committee imposed a blanket ban on all types of firecrackers until January 1, 2024.

Uttar Pradesh: Noida and Ghaziabad police revoked around 80 licenses for selling crackers, and green crackers will only be permitted if the air quality index registers below 200.

Haryana: Gurugram district administration banned the production, sale, and storage of most firecrackers but allows green firecrackers during specific times.

Punjab: Ludhiana district established time frames for bursting firecrackers and banned their use in silence zones.

Maharashtra: The Bombay High Court permitted the bursting of firecrackers for 3 hours on Diwali, between 7 pm to 10 pm.

Karnataka: The state government restricted the bursting of crackers for 2 hours between 8 pm and 10 pm and prohibited selling or bursting near schools and hospitals.

West Bengal: Only green crackers with QR codes are allowed, and specific time windows have been designated for their use.

The focus on green crackers and limited time windows is a response to the growing concerns over air quality during the Diwali festival.
