Delhi Government Plans Artificial Rain to Tackle Air Pollution - Kruthiga V S

In an effort to alleviate the severe air pollution crisis in Delhi, the Arvind Kejriwal government is working on a plan for artificial rain, scheduled for November 20-21. This approach, known as cloud seeding, aims to mitigate the dire air quality levels in the national capital.

A team from IIT Kanpur proposed this artificial rain solution, which involves introducing certain substances, such as silver iodide or potassium iodide, into the clouds to induce precipitation. The Delhi government requested a detailed plan from the IIT team, which it will submit to the Supreme Court on November 10. Once the Supreme Court approves the plan, both the Delhi government and the Central government will work together to implement it.

IIT Kanpur, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), has been actively planning cloud seeding to combat pollution in Delhi and the National Capital Region for the past two months. Cloud seeding can help settle dust particles and make the environment cleaner and less polluted during the artificial rain event.

As the national capital grapples with hazardous air quality levels, the Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai called a meeting with all ministers to address the ongoing air pollution problem. AAP ministers are set to conduct on-ground visits to enforce anti-pollution measures. The Delhi government remains committed to finding innovative solutions to tackle air pollution.
