Aakash Nambiar's 104KM Barefoot Marathon in Dubai - Kruthiga V S

Aakash Nambiar, a 34-year-old ultra-marathoner hailing from Bengaluru, accomplished a remarkable feat by covering 104 kilometers in just over 17 hours and 20 minutes on the streets of Dubai. Known as ‘Barefoot Mallu’ on Instagram, Nambiar embarked on this challenging journey from Love Lake in Al Qudra, traversing iconic landmarks such as Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Kite Beach, Jumeirah Beach, La Mer Beach, Etihad Museum, and the Museum of the Future. His final destination was the towering Burj Khalifa, reached by midnight. Noteworthy is the fact that he ran barefoot, enduring the hot Middle Eastern terrain.

This extraordinary marathon wasn’t just a testament to physical stamina but also a call to action against climate change. Nambiar’s initiative was spurred by the momentum generated at COP28, the climate change conference in December. Through his barefoot run, he aimed to engage with the community, emphasizing the collective effort required to combat climate change. His resounding message was clear: “WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME” to address this pressing global issue.

Inspired by the scenic backdrop of Dubai’s skyscrapers, the run commenced at sunrise from Love Lake and culminated at the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building globally, covering a route that included Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Kite Beach, Jumeirah Beach, La Mer Beach, Etihad Museum, and Museum of the Future—a total of approximately 104 kilometers.

Aakash Nambiar’s barefoot marathon stands as a poignant reminder of the urgency to address climate change, using his remarkable feat to amplify the message that time is running out.
