Amidst the ongoing controversy involving Lakshadweep Islands and Maldives, Chief Secretary Keshav Chandra of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has extended an invitation to tourists to explore the archipelago. In light of social media comments by Maldivian ministers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chandra emphasized the exceptional beaches and unique offerings of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean Region.
Highlighting the pristine natural beauty and picturesque islands with sandy beaches, Chandra encouraged travelers to experience a range of activities, including sunbathing, snorkeling, swimming, game fishing, and more. The Chief Secretary outlined initiatives, including the development of a five-star property at Megapode in Port Blair and leasing land at Radha Nagar Beach in Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island) to enhance facilities for tourists.
Efforts are underway to extend beach hours for late-night enjoyment, providing tourists with a captivating view of the landscape and bio-luminescence. The administration is also working to collaborate with more airline operators, leading to competitive and affordable ticket prices. Plans for international connectivity from Port Blair, especially with Southeast Asian countries, are being explored to boost tourism.
Access to various uninhabited islands for tourism activities has been granted, with Cinque Island recently opened for day tourism. Seaplane services from Port Blair to various inter-island destinations are set to commence soon. Policies promoting tourism activities like bird watching, caravan experiences, houseboats, and luxury tent accommodations are in their final stages of implementation.
The administration is taking measures to enhance the nightlife experience, including night-cruise dinner facilities at Port Blair, along with houseboat and night kayaking options. This comes in the backdrop of the Maldivian government suspending three deputy ministers for derogatory social media posts against PM Modi following his visit to Lakshadweep, potentially positioning the Union Territory as an alternative tourist destination to the Maldives.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands remain committed to showcasing their unique attractions and fostering tourism, presenting travelers with a diverse range of experiences against the scenic backdrop of the Indian Ocean.
