Election Officials Check Rahul Gandhi's Helicopter in Tamil Nadu

A helicopter transporting Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was subjected to inspection by election officials in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris. The incident took place as Rahul Gandhi was en route to Wayanad, his Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala.

Election officials clarified that the helicopter search was part of standard procedures to uphold the integrity of elections and prevent any form of inducement.

As per sources, the Election Commission of India had instructed district magistrates, superintendents of police, and enforcement agencies to closely monitor airfields and helipads to prevent the transportation of inducements via air.

The scrutiny occurred while Rahul Gandhi was traveling to Wayanad for campaign activities, including a roadshow and public meeting, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Rahul Gandhi, who secured victory from Wayanad in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, is seeking re-election for the seat.

In an interesting turn, Rahul Gandhi will face competition from Annie Raja of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and K Surendran of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Kerala, with 20 Lok Sabha seats, is scheduled to vote on April 26, while Tamil Nadu will conduct polls for 39 constituencies on April 19.

Vote counting is slated for June 4.
