Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan highlighted the trend of young Indian entrepreneurs moving abroad to establish businesses, citing dissatisfaction with opportunities in India. Rajan likened their mentality to that of Virat Kohli, emphasizing their ambition to excel on a global scale. He noted the preference for locations offering easier access to international markets.
Rajan underscored the importance of addressing the underlying reasons driving entrepreneurs to seek opportunities outside India. He emphasized the need for enhancing human capital and skill development to retain talent within the country.
Speaking at a conference on ‘Making India an Advanced Economy by 2047’ at George Washington University, Rajan expressed concern over India’s failure to fully harness its demographic dividend. He cautioned against complacency, highlighting the discrepancy between GDP growth and job creation.
Rajan urged policymakers to create an enabling environment conducive to entrepreneurship and innovation, thereby retaining talent and fostering economic growth domestically.
