Two foreign female tourists stirred controversy in Kochi, Kerala, by vandalizing pro-Palestine boards, citing reasons related to the Jewish community. The incident, captured on video, shows the tourists engaged in a heated argument with locals, alleging that the boards promoted falsehoods.
According to reports, the tourists tore down the pro-Palestine boards on April 15, prompting the Fort Kochi police to register a case against them. In the video footage, the tourists can be seen standing amidst the scattered remains of the vandalized boards, engaging in a verbal altercation with locals who expressed their dismay over the destruction of public property.
During the argument, one of the tourists asserted, “I did it for the Jewish people. You are promoting propaganda and lies,” highlighting her perception of the content displayed on the boards. In response, locals urged the tourists to address their grievances through proper channels rather than resorting to vandalism.
The conversation escalated as the tourists defended their actions, claiming that the presence of the pro-Palestine boards promoted sectarianism. However, locals emphasized the diverse religious and cultural fabric of India, reiterating the need for peaceful coexistence.
The incident drew attention as it unfolded on the streets of Kochi, with bystanders witnessing the confrontation between the tourists and locals. The pro-Palestine boards in question were erected by the Students Islamic Organisation, adding a political and social dimension to the altercation.
Subsequently, a complaint was filed by the Students Islamic Organisation, leading to the police registering a case in response to the incident. The altercation underscores the sensitivity of political and religious issues, urging dialogue and peaceful resolution in addressing disagreements.
