A 17-year-old driver involved in a fatal sports car accident in Pune has been granted bail by a juvenile court under specific conditions. The collision in Koregaon Park resulted in the deaths of a couple on a two-wheeler. Despite the severity of the incident, the court did not find the crime “serious” enough to deny bail.
Bail Conditions:
– Work with traffic police for 15 days.
– Undergo psychiatric evaluation and treatment.
– Write a 300-word essay on “the effect of road accidents and their solution.”
– Seek rehabilitation at a de-addiction center.
– Study traffic rules and present them to the Juvenile Justice Board.
– Assist accident victims if encountered.
The teenager, son of a well-known builder, crashed a Porsche into a motorbike carrying Anis Dudhiya and Ashwini Costa. Costa died on the spot, and Dudhiya succumbed to injuries at the hospital. Eyewitnesses reported that the teenager and two others in the car were intoxicated, with one fleeing the scene post-collision.
The Yerawada police station charged the driver with rash driving and causing death by negligence under the IPC and Motor Vehicles Act. Despite the court’s bail decision, the police plan to appeal for the minor to be tried as an adult.
Akhilesh Awadhiya, uncle of victim Anis Dudhiya, criticized the bail conditions and called for stricter measures, highlighting the risks of releasing the minor without severe consequences.
Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar stated that a case was also registered against the pub that served liquor to the minor and the car’s registered owner, the minor’s father. The police continue to investigate the case and intend to challenge the court’s decision.
The community remains watchful as the legal process unfolds, awaiting further developments in this high-profile case.
