Google has introduced a new feature on the Play Store for Indian users called the “Ask Someone Else to Pay” button. This innovative option allows users to share a payment link for in-app purchases, enabling another person to complete the transaction on their behalf.
To utilize this feature, users simply click the button to generate a payment link, which can be shared via the Android share sheet. The recipient has 24 hours to complete the transaction before the link expires automatically.
When a user clicks the button, they are informed that the person making the payment must know their complete email address, can view the item they are purchasing, and can request a refund if necessary. This ensures transparency and security for both parties involved in the transaction.
Initially, this feature will be available only to Indian users, with no confirmed plans for expansion to other markets at this time. However, its potential to enhance user experience and facilitate gifting or assisting with purchases is significant.
Previously, users could share applications by creating a family group or Family Library on Google Play. The new “Ask Someone Else to Pay” function simplifies the process, allowing users to request a purchase from someone outside their Google family.
This feature is particularly useful for those wanting to gift apps or make purchases on behalf of friends or relatives. It eliminates the need for complex setups and makes the process straightforward and user-friendly.
Additionally, Google has introduced other billing-related modifications. Family managers can now make purchases for child accounts on non-Android devices using web links, expanding the flexibility of payment options. They can use any payment method, including gift cards, registered to their Google Payments profile.
Google has also adjusted the price cap for apps in the Play Store, increased pricing ranges to accommodate exchange rate fluctuations, and introduced new badges to highlight popular products. Furthermore, it has revised payment methods for long-term subscriptions in Brazil, France, Italy, and Spain to improve user convenience.
These changes reflect Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance the Play Store experience, making it more versatile and user-centric. The “Ask Someone Else to Pay” feature is a notable addition, expected to be well-received by users in India.
