Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday that he will surrender to police at Tihar Jail on June 2 in connection with a money laundering case related to the now-scrapped liquor policy. Kejriwal, who has been on interim bail since May 10, revealed that doctors have indicated potential signs of a “serious disease” in his body.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal stated that he is uncertain how long he will be detained. Despite the situation, he affirmed that his morale remains high as he prepares to return to prison, claiming he is doing so to “save the country from dictatorship.”

Criticizing the BJP, Kejriwal alleged that his previous imprisonment involved various forms of harassment, including the stoppage of his medications. He expressed confusion over the intent behind such actions and shared his concerns about potential further mistreatment upon his return to jail.

Kejriwal disclosed that his weight has dropped significantly since his initial imprisonment, suggesting that this might be indicative of a severe health issue, according to his doctors. He emphasized the need for further medical tests to determine the exact nature of his condition.

The AAP leader accused the BJP of attempting to intimidate him and reiterated his resolve to resist such pressure. He assured the public that the development works in Delhi, including free electricity, healthcare services, and other welfare programs, would continue unabated despite his incarceration.

Kejriwal also appealed to the citizens to pray for his ailing mother, expressing his concern for her well-being during his time in jail. He requested the public to take care of his elderly parents in his absence.

Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on May 10 but has been ordered to surrender by June 2, just two days before the vote counting for the Lok Sabha elections. He was initially arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 after a questioning session at his residence.

On Thursday, a Delhi court deferred the hearing of Kejriwal’s bail plea to June 1. The Chief Minister is seeking both regular and interim bail in the liquor policy case. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has declined to hear Kejriwal’s request for a seven-day extension of his interim bail, directing him to approach the trial court for regular bail instead.

Kejriwal’s return to Tihar Jail marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings and raises further questions about the political implications of his incarceration.
