NEET 2024: No Paper Leak, Limited Issues at Six Exam Centers, Says NTA Chief

Days after NEET aspirants alleged irregularities and inflation of marks, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Subodh Kumar reiterated that there was no paper leak in the NEET exam. Addressing a press conference, Kumar confirmed that the issues were confined to just six exam centers and affected only about 1,600 candidates out of the 24 lakh who appeared.

The NTA chief emphasized that the exam’s integrity was maintained nationwide. He stated that the problems, including the wrong distribution of question papers, were limited to a small fraction of the 4,750 exam centers. Kumar assured that the results were transparently analyzed and declared.

The Education Ministry has set up a panel to re-examine the results of over 1,500 students who were awarded grace marks. While the results might be revised, the admission process will not be impacted. Kumar also noted that a grievance addressal committee would investigate the time lost by affected candidates, including reviewing CCTV footage from the centers.

Kumar explained that the inflation of marks was partly due to changes in the NCERT textbooks and the grace marks given for lost time. Despite the controversy, he asserted that the compensation with grace marks has not compromised the qualifying criteria.
