BREAKING NEWS - Special IAF Plane Brings Remains of 45 Indians Killed in Kuwait Fire to Kochi

A special Indian Air Force by plane carrying the remains of 45 Indians killed in the Kuwait building fire tragedy landed at Cochin International Airport today at approximately 10:30 am. The plane departed for Kerala in the early hours of Friday.

Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, who confirmed the aircraft’s departure, was onboard the plane. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan arrived at the airport shortly after the aircraft landed to oversee the proceedings.

The coffins were transported outside the airport, where families of the deceased awaited to receive the mortal remains. Heavy security was present at Cochin Airport, with 35 ambulances and nearly an equal number of police vehicles lined up outside the import cargo terminal.

On Thursday, Kuwaiti authorities identified the bodies of 45 Indians and three Filipino nationals killed in the fire. Kuwait has committed to a thorough investigation of the incident and has assured full support in repatriating the victims’ remains.

The tragic fire, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the deaths of at least 49 foreign workers and injured 50 others. The fire broke out in a seven-story building housing 196 migrant workers in the southern city of Mangaf.

Kuwait Fire Force concluded that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit after a field examination of the scene and the building. Kuwaiti authorities are conducting DNA tests on the bodies of those killed in the devastating incident to confirm their identities.
