In the midst of the conflict between Israel and Gaza, a convoy of 40 ambulances, transporting Palestinians injured during the war, reached the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing, as confirmed by an Egyptian Red Crescent official.
Early on Wednesday, these ambulances facilitated the transfer of dozens of severely injured individuals to Egypt for medical treatment. Simultaneously, dual-passport holders, who were seeking safety, continued to arrive at the Rafah border crossing and were allowed to enter North Sinai.
Wounded Palestinians arriving in Egypt via ambulances were permitted to have a family member or friend accompany them, as indicated by a medical officer stationed at Rafah. The majority of those accompanying the wounded were children, a move by the Palestinian side to ensure the safety of as many children as possible amid Israeli airstrikes.
Egyptian security officials announced that 121 foreign citizens would enter Egypt through Rafah, in addition to the 110 wounded Palestinians who had undergone security vetting.
Social media footage depicted people gathering at the Rafah crossing gate, with numerous ambulances present. Egyptian medical teams were on hand at the crossing to assess the cases and designate the appropriate hospitals for treatment.
The Rafah crossing has played a crucial role in allowing aid lorries to enter Gaza during these challenging times. The UK has prepared teams to assist British citizens as soon as the Rafah crossing opens, underscoring the importance of swiftly delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza.
