A talented young tennis player from Coimbatore, Maya Rajeshwaran Revathi, showcased her skills at the Australian Open, achieving a remarkable 5th place finish in the U-14 category.

The Australian Open tennis tournament has made a commitment to nurturing the next generation of tennis stars, bringing young players from across the globe to Melbourne for a unique experience. In line with this, the Asia-Pacific Elite U-14 Trophy was held in Melbourne from 25th to 27th, serving as a platform for young talents to get a taste of Grand Slam competition as part of the Australian Open Tennis Series.

The Asia-Pacific Elite U-14 Trophy tournament selected the top 5 Under-14 players from Asia, as well as 8 players each from Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Oceania. A total of 16 young talents were selected, with 8 in the boys’ category and 8 in the girls’ category.

Two young tennis players from India were selected to compete in the Asia-Pacific Elite U-14 Trophy, part of the Australian Open Tennis Series. Arnav Babarkar from Pune and Maya Rajeshwaran Revathi from Coimbatore were among the 16 players selected in the boys and girls categories, respectively.
Arnav won the boys’ title by defeating Cunanan Pandaratorn of Thailand in the final, 6-3, 6-0. Maya, on the other hand, finished 5th in her category after a series of competitive matches. She lost her first match to Japan’s Hikari Yamamoto but bounced back with a win against Mia Chang from French Polynesia. In her last match, Maya faced Jiun Oh from Hong Kong and put up a strong fight, but lost 6-7, 3-6.
Maya secured her 5th place finish by defeating Yashvita Reddy of New Zealand and Jennifer from Australia in straight sets in the 5th to 8th place match.

Maya Rajeshwaran Revathi, a talented young tennis player from Coimbatore, has achieved great success in the sport. She has won multiple national championships in the Under-14 and Under-16 categories, and is ranked No. 1 in the Under-14 category and No. 4 in the Under-16 category in India. Maya’s father, who is a big fan of tennis, introduced her to the sport at the age of 8, and with proper guidance and training, she quickly began to excel. Maya trained at the Rogan Bopanna Tennis Academy in Bengaluru before returning to Coimbatore to continue her training. She has won the title of National Champion in U-12, U-14, and U-16 categories, as well as the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association’s Emerging Young Player Award. Maya recently took part in the Asia-Pacific Elite U-14 Trophy held in Melbourne as part of the Australian Open Tennis Series, and finished 5th after defeating Yashvita Reddy from New Zealand and Jennifer from Australia.
