Allegations of Conspiracy to Impose President's Rule in Delhi

Delhi cabinet minister Atishi has raised concerns over a purported conspiracy by the BJP-led central government to enforce President’s Rule in the national capital. Atishi, citing undisclosed sources, claims that the BJP is orchestrating this move, which, if implemented, would entail the central government assuming control over the state administration.

According to Atishi, the alleged imposition of President’s Rule would constitute an illegitimate act, contradicting the mandate of the people, as the AAP government has demonstrated its majority in the Delhi Assembly.

During a press briefing, Atishi further asserted that the arrest of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate was based on unfounded allegations. She suggested that Kejriwal’s arrest aimed to thwart the party’s initiative of providing financial assistance to women.

Additionally, Atishi criticized the central government for hampering the administration of Delhi by failing to appoint officers to key positions within the city’s government despite numerous vacancies.

She highlighted the prevalence of vacant positions in various departments, coupled with the absence of appointments. Atishi also noted instances where bureaucrats refrained from attending ministerial meetings, citing the Model Code of Conduct. Moreover, she pointed out the lieutenant governor’s correspondence with the Union Home Ministry regarding the functioning of the Delhi government.

The situation in Delhi has been tumultuous since the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with a money laundering case related to the excise policy. Despite being labeled as the ‘kingpin’ of the liquor policy case by the Enforcement Directorate, Kejriwal remains in office as Chief Minister while incarcerated in Tihar Jail until April 15, in accordance with the directive of the Delhi Rouse Avenue court.
