Arvind Kejriwal Takes Jibe at PM, Compares India with 'Putin's Russia'

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday drew a parallel between the current situation in India and Russia, indirectly targeting PM Narendra Modi. Speaking at an INDIA bloc rally at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Kejriwal stated that India is going through a “very dangerous” phase.

Kejriwal highlighted that in Russia, President Vladimir Putin jailed or eliminated rivals before elections, securing 87% of the votes. He drew comparisons with recent elections in Bangladesh and Pakistan, where opposition leaders were imprisoned, allowing incumbents to win.

“Modi ji, after learning from Bangladesh and Pakistan, is trying to replicate the same thing here in India,” Kejriwal said. He referenced his own imprisonment, along with former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and the Congress party’s financial troubles as examples of this trend.

Kejriwal’s remarks come shortly after his release on bail by the Supreme Court in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi liquor policy, following nearly 50 days in Tihar jail. He condemned these actions as signs of “cowardice.”

The rally also saw Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge claim that there is an undercurrent against the Modi-led government, which has left the PM afraid. Kharge accused Modi of neglecting employment generation and inflation control.

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar reminded the audience that Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray once supported Modi during tough times, a favor the PM seems to have forgotten.

The 13 Lok Sabha seats of Maharashtra, including six in Mumbai, will vote on May 20 in the fifth and final phase of the elections.
