Congress Announces First List of Candidates for Lok Sabha Elections

The Congress party unveiled its initial list of candidates, naming 39 individuals set to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Among the prominent figures mentioned are Rahul Gandhi, who will vie for the Wayanad seat in Kerala, and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, standing for election in Rajnandgaon.

Addressing the media, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal shared that the selection comprises 15 candidates from the general category and 24 from ST/SC/OBC and minority backgrounds. The diverse lineup includes Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor, Alappuzha’s AICC general secretary KC Venugopal, and Rajnandgaon candidate Bhupesh Baghel.

In Chhattisgarh, notable contenders include Dr. Shivkumar Dahariya for Jangir-Champa-SC, Jyotsana Mahant for Korba, and Vikas Upadhyay for Raipur. Karnataka’s lineup features H.R. Algur (Raju) in Bijapur – SC, Anandaswamy Gaddadevara Math in Haveri, and Geetha Shivarajkumar in Shimoga.

The Kerala segment comprises strong contenders like K Sudhakaran for Kannur, Shafi Parambil for Vadakara, and M.K. Raghavan for Kozhikode. The Lakshadweep constituency will see Mohd. Hamdullaha Sayeed as the candidate, and Meghalaya features Vincent H. Pala for Shillong – ST and Saleng A. Sangma for Tura – ST.

Other candidates include S. Supongmeren Jamir for Nagaland, Gopal Chettri for Sikkim, and Suresh Kumar Shetkar for Zahirabad in Telangana. In Tripura West, Ashish Kumar Saha is set to represent the Congress party.

This announcement marks a crucial step for the Congress party as it gears up for the upcoming elections, bringing forward a diverse set of candidates with varied backgrounds and experiences.
