In a transformative move, BITS Pilani introduces the PhD-DRIVE program, aiming to catalyze startups rooted in deep science and technology research. Expanding as Deep-tech Research, Innovation, Value generation & Entrepreneurship, the program is open to tech-savvy students with a resolute ambition to establish startups.

As part of the initiative, participants will engage in entrepreneurship courses, incubation programs, and receive funding for product development. The program strategically aligns with various Centers of Excellence established by BITS Pilani, encompassing domains like semiconductors, bio-cyber physical systems, AI and machine learning, medical diagnostics, and infectious diseases.

Promisingly, selected scholars will enjoy financial support through stipends and prototyping grants throughout the program. Notably, admissions are open year-round, and notifications will be posted on BITS Pilani’s official website, headquartered in Rajasthan.

Suresh Kabra, a BITS Pilani alumnus, contributes to the program by sponsoring three women Ph.D. scholars with innovative biological sciences ideas, coupled with seed funds.

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, envisions nurturing 100 startups through this initiative by 2030. Prof. Rao emphasizes the need to transcend conventional academic paths post-Ph.D., urging scholars to venture into entrepreneurship while remaining innovators.

The program’s focal points encompass homeland security, cyber security, healthcare, environment, agriculture, space, and energy solutions. Sub-domains within these realms, addressing challenges like climate change, industry 4.0, and food technology, are of paramount interest. The overarching goal is to harness cutting-edge technologies, including quantum science and nanotechnology, for grassroots-level impact.

Under this startup track, PhD students will be affiliated with specialized labs or centers of excellence at BITS Pilani, engaged in pioneering work that propels advanced technology for the betterment of society.
