MI skipper Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 30 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate in the IPL 2024 match against LSG on May 17 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Other players have been fined Rs 12 lakhs or 50% of their match fees, whichever is lesser. Hardik’s ban will extend to the first match of IPL 2025 regardless of his team.
“Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 17,” a media release stated.
“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 30 lakh and banned from playing the team’s next match,” the release added.
After moving from GT, Hardik did not have a successful IPL 2024 season. His team finished at the bottom of the table with 8 points and a net run rate of -0.318, winning only 4 out of 14 matches. MI’s campaign ended with an 18-run loss to LSG.
Hardik struggled with the bat, scoring only 216 runs from 14 matches at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 143.04, with a top score of 46. He also took 11 wickets but at an expensive economy rate of 10.75.
Now, Hardik faces a significant challenge as the vice-captain of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA.
