The recently released Henley Passport Index for 2024 shows France securing the top spot, offering visa-free access to 194 countries.
India’s passport ranking has experienced a slight decline, moving from 84th to 85th place, despite an increase in the number of countries Indian passport holders can visit without a visa, rising from 60 to 62.
France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain are among the top-ranked countries, showcasing the strength of their passports. Meanwhile, Pakistan maintains its 106th place, and Bangladesh has slipped from 101st to 102nd position.
India’s neighboring country, Maldives, holds a strong passport at 58th place, allowing visa-free travel to 96 countries.
The index, based on 19 years of data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), highlights the evolution of global mobility. In 2006, individuals could travel visa-free to an average of 58 countries, a number that has nearly doubled to 111 countries in 2024.
The Henley Passport Index serves as a global standard, updated monthly, providing insights into citizens’ travel privileges worldwide.
