India Boosts Missile Production to Counter China's Aggression

India is ramping up its missile capabilities to deter China’s expansionist moves in the region. The country is expediting the production of short and long-range conventional missiles that can strike enemy targets without using nuclear weapons. This development is aimed at enhancing India’s strategic deterrence and defence preparedness in the face of China’s growing military might.

China has been asserting its territorial claims in the Himalayan border areas and the Indian Ocean region, posing a threat to India’s sovereignty and security. India has been responding by strengthening its military infrastructure and deploying advanced weapons systems along the border. India has also been collaborating with other countries like the US, Japan and Australia to counter China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region. Some of the conventional missiles that India is producing include BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, Agni ballistic missile, Nirbhay subsonic cruise missile, Prithvi tactical surface-to-surface missile and Akash surface-to-air missile.

These missiles have different ranges, speeds, payloads and guidance systems, giving India a variety of options to deal with different scenarios. India is also developing new technologies such as hypersonic missiles, anti-satellite weapons and missile defence systems to keep pace with China’s advancements. India’s missile programme is part of its larger vision of becoming a self-reliant and secure nation in a volatile world. The country is also pursuing peaceful uses of space and nuclear energy for its social and economic development. However, it is also ready to defend itself from any external aggression or coercion by using its credible deterrence posture based on conventional and nuclear capabilities.
