Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government formally notified that incumbent DGP Sunil Bansal (IPS: 1987: OD) will not be given extension setting in motion the appointment process of the new state police chief. The notification says that Bansal will be allowed to retire as DGP on December 31, 2023 upon completion of his two-year term. B Radhika (IPS: 1989: OD) is ahead in the race. Recently, UPSC amended guidelines and allowed officers with 25 years of experience to be appointed as DGP against the earlier requirement of a minimum 30 years of service. This would mean the list could have names of eight officers starting from 1988 till 1990 batch who are currently in the DG rank in the state. Arun Ray (IPS: 1988: OD), director of printing, stationery and publication, is in the race.
A M Prasad (IPS: 1989: OD), B Radhika (IPS: 1989: OD) and S M Narvane (IPS: 1989: OD) too in the reckoning. Pranabindu Acharya (IPS: 1989: OD) is unlikely not to be included as he has less than six months of service from the cut-off date of December 31, 2023.

New Delhi: An animation film on iconic Ahom general Lachit Barphukan written and directed by Partha Sarathi Mahanta (IPS: 2006: AM) has been selected for the Indian Panorama section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2023 to be held in Goa.

Lachit: The Warrior showcases heroics of Barphukan who is revered in Assam for preventing the Mughals from capturing Assam. It would be screened on November 21 for a global audience. Lachit commanded the Ahom army. The film traces the genesis of the military commander’s ancestry, his charismatic personality, his dexterous skills in diplomacy and naval warfare, physical prowess, unmatched valour, and most importantly, his resolute sense of patriotism. Under Lachit, Guwahati was won back from the Mughals in September-October, 1667. After a series of intermittent skirmishes, the military campaign ended in the battle of Saraighat (1671), where the Mughals were beaten decisively.

Produced by Mina Mahanta and Indrani Baruah, the film was screened and awarded at 10 film festivals in India and abroad this year. They include the 15th Jaipur International Film Festival, the 6th South Asian Short Film Festival in Kolkata, the Kollywood International Film Festival in Chennai, and the Newborn Short Film Festival in Berlin.

New Delhi: The Centre on Monday swung a surprise by repatriating Union Secretary for Border Management Atal Dulloo (lAS: 1989: UT) to the Cadre state on the request of Union Home Ministry.
Days ahead of retirement of the state Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta (IAS: 1988:J&K) the decision of repatriating Atal Dulloo to the Cadre state signals that the Centre has apparently made up its mind to draft him as the next Chief Secretary of the state.

For last several months many insiders had been of the view that extension to the incumbent Chief Secretary AK Mehta had remote chance and Raj Kumar Goel (IAS: 1990: JK) could be Mehta’s successor but as usual the Centre swung surprise again by repatriating Atal Dulloo.

Having been repatriated Dulloo appears Centre’s fresh choice for CS post but this is something which may prove a boon for Goel.

A section of senior bureaucrats believes that Centre might also have some plan for Goel in the Govt of India at an Apex Scale post.

New Delhi: Ever since Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s recommendation reached LG VK Saxena for immediate suspension and removal of Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar (IAS: 1987: AGMUT) on alleged corruption charges, the prospects of an extended term for CS has apparently brightened. Contrary to the common belief any attempt to corner and punish officers not aligning with a non-BJP ruled state often turns out to be a boon; this is what a section of insiders believes. The LG has already refused to consider the report by the Delhi government seeking action against the chief secretary. It may be underlined that Naresh Kumar is scheduled to superannuate on November 30, 2023 and Kejriwal’s move is seen as a timely attempt to shed the burden of corruption charges against his government and blunt the prospects of Kumar’s extension.

For last several months a sizeable section of senior bureaucrats believed that the Centre would extend the terms of Delhi CS right before his retirement date. Post Kejriwal’s move the very section has started believing that instead of blunting his prospect, it may work as push factor paving the way for an extended term. Instead of Kejriwal’s provocation to punish, the Centre may reward him.

New Delhi: IFoS officer Sanjeev Chaturvedi (IFoS:2002) is a man with mission, officer of conviction and character of integrity which is always reflected from his works and achievements especially when it comes to his war against corruption and mal-practices. At the same time he keeps paying heavy price for his stand and undying spirit to fight his case. Time keeps throwing challenges he keeps accepting them with conviction.
In one of his latest court hearings it came as a badge of honour when Chief Justice of High Court praised Chaturvedi by telling his counsel in open court that, “Your client is more well versed in law than you are.” The Magsaysay award winner civil servant is fearless when it comes to dealing with wrongs and turns toughest while fighting his cases and common cause.
