New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India asked the Delhi governmentand the Centre to shortlist candidates for Delhi Chief Secretary. The SC asked both sides to share candidates’ names with each other before the central government provides the shortlisted names to the SC on Tuesday. The Apex court commended while hearing a plea by the Delhi government against the Centre for extending the tenure of the current Delhi Chief Secretary, Naresh Kumar – or appoint a new official.

The SC asked the Centre to recommend three names, and the Delhi government would choose an option from the list. The three names will be shared after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta discusses those with the central government. “Give us (a) workable solution. The government should work without the need to go to court. Give us a way out. One option could be to give us three names. Why don’t LG (VK Saxena) and CM (Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal) meet and decide (the) Delhi Chief Secretary row?” the court asked.

Senior Advocate Harish Salve, appearing for Saxena, agreed with the top court’s suggestion but requested that the candidates’ names should not be shared in the public domain to which CJI D Y Chandrachud agreed.
The ruling AAP government has levelled several allegations against Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, with the latest being a multi-crore ‘hospital scam’. But the court ruled in favour of Kumar for not named in the corruption case.

It may be underlined that the article claimed the senior IAS officer had involvement and had gratification in the alleged Dwarka Expressway land scam but the court stressed upon the order passed by the then DM and underlined that the enhancement of compensation was an outcome of arbitration proceedings, in which the plaintiff was clearly not involved.

Lucknow: Sulkhan Singh (Retd IPS: 1980: UP), former Director General of Police (DGP) of Uttar Pradesh, has announced the formation of a political party — Bundelkhand Loktantrik Party (BLP) — to ensure separate statehood for Bundelkhand region. This region encompasses eight parliamentary constituencies — four in Uttar Pradesh and four in Madhya Pradesh.

His political venture draws inspiration from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader KC Rao’s successful campaign for a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh. Singh accused successive governments of neglecting the Bundelkhand region.

He acknowledged having attempted to engage with established parties regarding the region’s issues, but to no avail. His vision for this new state would include the amalgamation of seven districts in Uttar Pradesh – Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun, Jhansi, and Lalitpur – with eight districts in Madhya Pradesh – Damoh, Panna, Chattarpur, Datia, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Niwadi, and Ashok Nagar.

New Delhi: Afghanistan has closed its embassy in India effective from November 23, 2023. Official statement of Afghan embassy says, “Effective from November 23, 2023, owing to persistent challenges from the Indian government. The decision follows the embassy’s earlier cessation of operations on September 30, a move made in the hope that the Indian government stance will favourably change to let the mission operate normally.”
Over the past two years and three months, the Afghan community in India has witnessed a significant decline, with Afghan refugees, students, and traders leaving the country that the number has nearly halved since August 2021, with very limited new visas being issued during this period.

As of now, there are no diplomats from the Afghan Republic in India. Those who served in the national capital have safely reached third countries, the embassy informed through its release, adding that the only individuals present in India are diplomats affiliated with the Taliban, visibly attending their regular online meetings.
The diplomats of the Afghan Republic have handed over the mission solely to the Indian government. It now rests upon the Indian government to decide the fate of the mission, whether to maintain its closure or consider alternatives, including the possibility of handing it over to Taliban diplomats.
