Mind Voice News: Bard vs ChatGPT: Battle of the AI chatbots

ChatGPT, the AI chatbot from OpenAI, took the world by storm with its ability to generate human-like responses to user queries. It wasn’t long before Google announced its own AI chatbot, Bard, set to release by the end of February 2023. While both bots perform similar tasks, there are notable differences between them.

Generative AI creates content by automatically generating responses to user queries based on data from its machine learning model. When ChatGPT launched in November 2022, people began exploring the use of AI-generated content for business, education, and personal purposes. However, AI experts cautioned that the information could be mixed up when pulled from incorrect data sources.

Microsoft has also recently partnered with OpenAI to enhance their AI capabilities. As for Bard, it draws responses from the internet using Google’s Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA). It aims to retrieve information in a simple answer format, with the option of providing links for users to gather more information.

The primary difference between ChatGPT and Bard is the data source. Bard continually draws information from the internet, allowing it to access the latest research and information. In contrast, ChatGPT’s sources end with 2021 data, which limits its access to newer research.

Another notable difference is the language model used by each chatbot. Bard uses LaMDA, which is trained to find patterns in sentences and between words to create dialogue. On the other hand, ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5, which is based on human-created text on the internet to formulate responses to user queries.

In February 2023, Microsoft announced that they would release technology for large companies to create and customize their own chatbots using ChatGPT technology. They also plan to embed AI-powered search functions to Bing and Edge with chat experience to aid user search. These browsers will feature a newer version of ChatGPT using GPT-4, providing more relevant information from the internet.

While ChatGPT and Bard share similar functions, there are key differences between them. Bard uses the latest data from the internet and LaMDA for dialogue applications, while ChatGPT uses GPT-3.5 and has access to newer research through GPT-4. The battle between these two chatbots will surely continue as the AI industry evolves.
