Chennai airport is all set to inaugurate its new terminal for international flights in June. The officials of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have stated that by May 20, they aim to shift the operations of all narrow-body aircraft and begin trials for wide-body aircraft in the third week of May. This will allow for smoother and more convenient international travel, with more flights being operated to countries such as Ethiopia and Kuwait from the new terminal.
It is worth noting that several flights have already been operated from the new terminal, including Ethiopian Airlines ET0692/0693 to Addis Ababa Bole international airport on 4th May, Fits Air 8D00833/0834 to Bandaranaike International airport in Sri Lanka on 5th of May, and Jazeera- J90427/J90428 to Kuwait International airport on 8th of May.
The shifting of operations to the new terminal is being done in a calibrated manner. All the international operations of the existing T4 and T3 are being gradually shifted to the new terminal, with operational trials forming part of the migration process.
The operational trials have been going smoothly so far, with Air India having already operated from/to the terminal in Chennai-Singapore 9 Arrival & Departure sector on May 3rd. The trials have been conducted with the cooperation of all stakeholders, and passenger facilities such as check-in, immigration, customs, baggage handling systems, etc., have been tested for seamless functionality.
The trials are being conducted to ensure that the new terminal meets the highest standards of safety, functionality, passenger satisfaction, and provides world-class facilities to the passengers. Once all the trials are successfully completed, the new terminal is expected to be inaugurated in June, and all international flights will be operated from there.
The new terminal is expected to bring a significant improvement in the passenger experience, with modern amenities and infrastructure. The Chennai airport is a major hub for international travel, and the new terminal is expected to further boost its connectivity and capacity. With the trial operations going smoothly so far, passengers can look forward to a hassle-free and comfortable travel experience from the new terminal.
