Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, is reportedly planning to build a town in Texas for his employees to live and work. According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk has described the town as a “Texas utopia along the Colorado River”. The town would be built on land in Bastrop County, adjacent to Boring and SpaceX facilities that are currently under construction.
-Ambitious Plans for a Texas Utopia: The proposed town, which could be named Snailbrook after the Boring Co.’s mascot, would initially feature 110 homes with street names like “Boring Boulevard,” “Waterjet Way,” and “Cutterhead Crossing.” -However, Musk’s long-term plan is to create an entire city for his workforce, with amenities like restaurants, stores, and recreational areas.
-Affordable Housing for Boring Co. Employees: The new town will provide affordable housing for Boring Co. employees, who can apply for a home with rent starting at $800. However, there’s a catch – employees must vacate the home within 30 days if they leave the company or are fired.
Musk’s Love Affair with Texas Continues: Musk himself relocated from California to Texas in 2021, citing overregulation, overlitigation, and overtaxation as the reasons for the move. Over the past three years, his companies have purchased 3,500 acres in the Austin area. While Tesla’s engineering headquarters are located in Palo Alto, the corporate headquarters remain in Texas, and the company has built a Gigafactory in Travis County.

The town, which Musk has described as a “Texas utopia along the Colorado River,” would be located on land in Bastrop County adjacent to SpaceX and Boring Company facilities currently under construction.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk and a Boring Company executive have researched incorporating the proposed town, potentially to be called Snailbrook after the Boring Company’s mascot. The ultimate goal is to create an entire city, said Steve Davis, the president of Boring Company.
This is not the first real estate move Musk has made in the Austin area. Over the past three years, his companies have purchased 3,500 acres in the region. Last year, it was revealed that Musk’s team had partnered with Lennar Corp., one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, to build a subdivision in the area for his workforce.
The latest move, however, takes the concept to a whole new level. An entity called Gapped Bass LLC, of which Davis serves as president, has reportedly purchased over 200 acres in Bastrop County with plans to build 110 homes. Bastrop County officials have approved street names such as “Boring Boulevard,” “Waterjet Way,” and “Cutterhead Crossing.”
But the project isn’t just about creating homes for his employees. According to reports, Boring Company employees can apply for a home with rent starting at $800, with the understanding that they must vacate the home within 30 days if they leave the company or are fired.

The move to build a town for employees underscores Musk’s commitment to not only his companies but also the well-being of those who work for him. It also highlights the growing trend of company towns, a concept that was popular in the past but has since fallen out of favor. With Musk’s vision, perhaps the concept will see a resurgence in the modern world.
