Pat Cummins Named Captain of SRH for IPL 2024

In a strategic move, SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) is set to see a change in leadership for the upcoming IPL season. Pat Cummins, Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning captain, is poised to take over as the new captain, succeeding Aiden Markram, who led the team in 2023. Sources indicate that SRH invested Rs 20.50 crore in Cummins, recognizing his leadership attributes.

Cummins, instrumental in Australia’s successful 2023 campaign, secured victories in the World Test Championship Final against India and the ODI World Cup Final against Rohit Sharma’s side. SRH’s decision to appoint Cummins aligns with their aim to strengthen the team’s leadership and on-field prowess.

Aiden Markram, the South African batting all-rounder, had a challenging stint as SRH captain in the 2023 season. Constant lineup changes resulted in the team finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins from 14 games. Markram, however, showcased his leadership prowess by guiding Sunrisers Eastern Cape to consecutive titles in the SA20 league.

The IPL 2024 auction witnessed SRH making significant acquisitions, including Cummins, Travis Head, and Wanindu Hasaranga. Cummins emerged as the costliest purchase at Rs 20.50 crore, while Hasaranga was considered a steal at just Rs 1.50 crore.

– Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs 1.50 crore)
