PATNA: State environment, forests and climate change

minister Tej Pratap Yadav unveiled the four tiger cubs with their mother that were put on public display in the enclosure of Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, commonly as Patna Zoo, from Sunday. Tej said the timing of the public display of the cubs coincided with the auspicious Makar Sankranti after the end of ‘kharmas’.

The minister told the media persons that the visitors will see and enjoy the playful cubs in their enclosures. “These cubs will be the major attraction at the zoo. They were born on May 25 last year to tigress Sangeeta and Royal Bengal tiger Nakul, who was brought from Vandalur zoo in 2019. The eight-month-old quadruplets were kept in isolation with their mother since the time of their birth.” he said.

According to an official press release by the zoo, two of the four cubs are white (males) and the other two have yellow and black strips (one male and one female). The white tigers were named as Magadh and Kesari while the other two were named as Vikram and Rani by chief minister Nitish Kumar on the International Tiger Day on July 29, 2020.
