The Dawoodi Bohra community, originating from the Fatimids, spearheaded the restoration efforts, commencing in 1970. Al-Hakim Mosque derives its name from Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, the 16th Fatimid caliph, and remains a revered site for the Dawoodi Bohra community, serving as a spiritual and cultural emblem. The Dawoodi Bohra Muslims trace their roots back to Egypt before migrating to Yemen and finally establishing their presence in India during the 11th century.
