Congress MP Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, criticizing his inability to prevent paper leaks in the nation while being credited with stopping the war in Ukraine. Rahul Gandhi’s remarks came in the context of the UGC-NET cancellation and the ongoing NEET controversy. He said, “It was being said that Modi ji stopped the Russia-Ukraine war. But for some reason, Narendra Modi has not been able to stop or doesn’t want to stop paper leaks in India.”
The UGC-NET exam, conducted on June 18 by the National Testing Agency, was canceled by the Education Ministry on Wednesday due to concerns about the exam’s integrity being compromised. The matter has been handed over to the CBI for investigation.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the frequent paper leaks were a result of the “education system being captured by the BJP’s parent organisation.” He claimed, “Till the time this is not reversed, paper leaks will go on. Modi ji has facilitated this capture. It is an anti-national activity.”
He further accused that university Vice-Chancellors were being selected not based on merit but on their connections to “a particular organisation.” Gandhi compared the situation to the impact of demonetisation on the economy, stating, “What was done by Narendra Modi to the economy with demonetisation has now been done to the education system.”
Rahul Gandhi emphasized the importance of an independent and objective education system, asserting, “The reason this is happening and the reason you’re suffering is because an independent, objective education system has been demolished… It is very important that the people who are guilty here are brought to book and they are punished.”
He announced that his party would raise the NEET row and UGC-NET cancellation issue in Parliament. Rahul Gandhi is also set to meet with students affected by the alleged irregularities in NEET.
