In 2009, Dhariwal received the National Talent Search Scholarship from the Indian government and won gold medals at the International Astronomy Olympiad in China. These accolades were stepping stones in his illustrious career in technology.
Dhariwal pursued a Bachelor’s in Computer Science (with Mathematics) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), graduating in 2017 with a perfect GPA of 5.0. Even before his graduation, he was recruited by OpenAI as a research intern in May 2016, marking the beginning of his journey with the AI research lab.
Currently, Dhariwal serves as a research scientist at OpenAI. He has been instrumental in several notable projects, including the DALL-E 2 image generation tool and, most recently, ChatGPT 4o. His work with the Omni team has been pivotal in advancing ChatGPT’s capabilities to its current state.
