Ramdev, Balkrishna Offer to Issue Public Apology in Patanjali Misleading Ads Case

New Delhi, India – Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurved managing director Acharya Balkrishna have proposed to tender a public apology in the misleading advertisements case. The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing to April 23, granting them a week to rectify the alleged contempt.

During the hearing, Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing Ramdev and Balkrishna, expressed their readiness to offer a public apology to demonstrate contrition. The apex court directed both individuals to be present for the next hearing.

In response to previous contempt notices issued by the court, Patanjali founders had submitted affidavits offering unconditional apologies. However, the court rejected these apologies and criticized the State Licensing Authority for inaction on the matter.

The bench emphasized the seriousness of the issue, stating, “We will rip you apart. Do you have the guts to do what you are doing?” The court also rebuked the Uttarakhand government for failing to take action against Patanjali Ayurved for violating the law.

During the previous hearing, the court had summoned Ramdev and Balkrishna due to the company’s failure to respond to notices regarding the advertisements of the firm’s products and their medicinal efficacy.

The top court deemed it appropriate to issue Ramdev a show cause notice, as the advertisements issued by Patanjali contradicted the undertaking given to the court on November 21, 2023, suggesting endorsement by him.
