"Twitter CEO Elon Musk Addresses Major Platform Issues"

13-02-2023, MIND VOICE, CHENNAI, TECH NEWS:

Twitter CEO Elon Musk recently shed some light on some technical problems that were plaguing the platform, during his visit to Twitter HQ. On Sunday, he revealed that the engineers had resolved two significant issues that were impacting Twitter’s performance.

The first issue was with the “Fanout service for Following feed,” which was getting overloaded when Elon tweeted, causing up to 95 percent of his tweets to not get delivered. The engineers have now resolved the issue by pulling the “Following” feed from search (also known as Earlybird).

Another issue that was addressed was the recommendation algorithm, which was using absolute block count rather than percentile block count. This was causing accounts with many followers to be dumped, even if the blocks represented only 0.1 percent of their followers. The CEO also pointed out that it was trivial for bot spam accounts to use blocks.

In addition to these technical improvements, Elon Musk also mentioned that the platform would be fixing the oversized fonts and undersized paragraph spacing. He stated that advertising needs to be semantic keyword-based, so that it is contextually relevant, and that changes would be made as soon as possible to ensure that ads shown during Twitter searches take into account the search words.

Finally, when a user commented that blocks are quite powerful and that accounts with a lot of reach would probably get blocked a lot, Elon replied that the giant block lists are problematic and mess up the recommendation system, creating a DDoS vector.

In conclusion, it is reassuring to see that Twitter’s CEO is actively engaged with the platform and is committed to improving its performance. These changes and improvements will hopefully enhance the user experience and make Twitter a more efficient and effective communication tool.Twitter CEO
