The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has approved a unified tourist visa that will enable travelers to explore Gulf countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a single visa. Sayyed Hamoud bin Faisal Al Busaidi, President of the current GCC session, announced this decision during the 40th meeting of the Interior Ministers of the GCC in Oman.
This unified tourist visa system, unanimously approved by GCC states, is expected to become effective in 2024-25 across these six nations. The decision aims to simplify travel logistics and strengthen communication and coordination among the GCC states. It’s anticipated that this project will significantly enhance the movement of residents and tourists within these countries, providing a boost to the economic and tourism sectors.
Additionally, the GCC council has approved electronic linking of traffic offenses across GCC states and is preparing a comprehensive strategy to combat illegal drugs, further contributing to regional cooperation and safety.
This unified tourist visa system is akin to the Schengen visa, facilitating easier travel between Gulf nations and promoting tourism across the region.
