With the inauguration of two new routes on March 18, 2023, India will now have 13 operational Vande Bharat Express trains across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the 12th Vande Bharat Express train from Secunderabad, Telangana, which will operate between Tirupati and Secunderabad.
PM Modi also inaugurated the first Vande Bharat Express train service connecting two Tamil Nadu cities, Chennai and Coimbatore. The Vande Bharat Express is the fastest train in India, with a top speed of 180 kmph, while the operational speed is 130 kmph for safety concerns. The Vande Bharat Express runs on different days for different routes, and the time taken to complete each journey varies.
The 13 routes on which Vande Bharat Express trains are currently operational include New Delhi-Varanasi, New Delhi-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (J&K), Gandhinagar-Mumbai, New Delhi-Amb Andaura in Himachal Pradesh, Chennai-Mysuru, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Howrah-New Jalpaiguri, Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam, Mumbai-Solapur, Mumbai-Shirdi, Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bhopal’s Rani Kamlapati station, and Secunderabad-Tirupati.

Vande Bharat Express is India’s fastest train, with a top speed of 180 kmph, and it currently operates on 13 routes across India. The most recent inaugurated routes were between Tirupati and Secunderabad and between Chennai and Coimbatore. Here are the details of all 13 routes:
1. New Delhi – Varanasi Vande Bharat Express: This was the first Vande Bharat train to be flagged off in February 2019. The train runs on five days, except Monday and Thursday, departing from New Delhi at 6:00 am and reaching Varanasi at 2:00 pm, covering a distance of 759 km.
2. New Delhi – Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (J&K) Vande Bharat Express: This train runs between New Delhi and Mata Vaishno Devi’s base camp Katra, departing from New Delhi at 6:00 am and reaching Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra at 2:00 pm, covering a distance of 655 km. It runs on six days, except Tuesday.
3. Gandhinagar – Mumbai Vande Bharat Express: This train was launched by PM Modi in September 2022. The train runs on six days, except Sunday, departing from Mumbai Central at 6:00 am and reaching Gandhinagar Capital station at 12:25 pm, covering a distance of 522 km.
4. New Delhi – Amb Andaura in Himachal Pradesh Vande Bharat Express: This train runs on six days, except Friday, departing from New Delhi at 05:50 am and reaching Amb Anadaura at 11:05 am.
5. Chennai – Mysuru Vande Bharat Express: The train runs on six days, except Wednesday, departing from Chennai at 05:50 am and reaching Mysuru Junction at 12:20 pm, covering a distance of 401 km.
6. Nagpur – Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express: This train serves between Maharastra’s Nagpur and Chattisgarh’s Bilaspur. The train runs on six days, except Saturday, departing from Nagpur railway station at 02:05 pm and reaching Bilaspur at 07:35 pm.
7. Howrah – New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express: This was virtually flagged off by PM Modi in December 2022. The train runs on six days, except Wednesday, leaving Howrah Junction at 05:55 am and reaching New Jalpaiguri at 1:25 pm, covering a distance of 454 km in seven hours and thirty minutes.
8. Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express: This train operates between Telangana’s Secunderabad and Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam, departing from Secunderabad Junction at 3:00 pm and arriving at Visakhapatnam Railway Station at 11:30 pm, covering a distance of 700 km. It runs on six days, except Sunday.
9. Mumbai – Solapur Vande Bharat Express: This train runs between Mumbai and Solapur, departing from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal (CST) at 4:05 pm and reaching Solapur at 10:40 pm, covering a 6 hours and 35-minute long journey. It runs on six days, except Wednesday.
10. Mumbai – Shirdi Vande Bharat Express: This train runs between Mumbai CST station and Sainagar Shirdi, departing at 6.20 am from Mumbai and reaching Shirdi at 11.40 am. It covers the distance of 250 km in five hours.
11. Lucknow-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express: This train runs on six days except Monday. The train departs from Lucknow Junction at 06:00 am and reaches New Delhi railway station at 12:10 pm covering the distance of 511 km.
12. Ahmedabad-Mumbai Vande Bharat Express: This train runs on all days except Thursday. The train departs from Ahmedabad Junction at 07:10 am and reaches Mumbai Central at 1:35 pm covering the distance of 492 km.
13. Varanasi-Indore Vande Bharat Express: This train runs on all days except Sunday. The train departs from Varanasi Junction at 03:15 pm and reaches Indore Junction at 9:40 am covering the distance of 981 km.
